Through black-and-white photos, the life of a cocker spaniel named Schlumpi offers an intimate portrait of post-WWII Germany, tracing the quiet, unspoken lives of a middle-class couple from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

As dates and handwritten notes hint at their world, Schlumpi is the constant, an ever-present companion until his death, replaced by Peggy, another spaniel. But as Peggy’s story fades, so too does the album, abruptly ending in empty black pages.

Discovered decades later at a Berlin flea market, this 5 € relic is a haunting glimpse into forgotten lives, human and canine.
